The Transportation Department of the ORS represents the public interest with regard to the regulation of motor carriers of passengers, household goods, and hazardous waste for disposal in South Carolina. In addition to monitoring these carriers’ insurance, the Transportation Department has regulatory oversight for their rates, charges, and practices. The Transportation Department also has responsibility for the safety of the state’s railroad system.
